Majority leader says support for the legislation is not strong enough.
In the wake of mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York had initially expressed a desire to bring gun legislation to the Senate floor for a vote. He changed tact after realizing that support was not great enough to reach the 60 votes needed to overcome the filibuster.
“There are some who want this body to quickly vote on sensible gun safety legislation, legislation supported by the vast majority of Americans,” Senator Schumer said. “They want to see this body vote quickly so the American people can know which side each senator is on … I’m sympathetic to that, and I believe that accountability votes are important.”
He added, “Americans can cast their vote in November for senators or members of Congress that reflect how he or she stands with guns.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Majority Leader Schumer to seek the heart of God regarding laws he brings to the floor.
- For members of the Senate as they consider legislation that would restrict gun ownership.
- For wisdom for federal authorities as they consider measures that infringe upon Second Amendment rights.
